Wow! That is one kick-ass piece of work. I'm half afraid of delving into this, though, fearing I'll spend the next three or four days fiddling around with menus, rather than creating content.

Hi there,
Thanks for a great tutorial -- I haven't implemented it yet, but I think I read that this will allow for categories and pages to co-exist under one dropdown menu. Is that true?

For instance, let's say the main parent nav link is a page - will this allow me to add sub-pages and blog categories under a single page dropdown?

Thanks again for the great work!

Hi, Island Jim,

A z-index of 100 is already in the "do not change" section. All you have to do to activate it is add a "position: relative" to the "#css_menu" selector, like this:

#css_menu {
	/* width of menu */
	width: 927px;
	/* center menu tabs or not */
	text-align:center;
	/* put your positioning statements here */
 position: relative;
}

Hope this helps!

Thanks for an excellent and easy to follow tutorial. My drop-down menu is behaving perfectly, except for 1 small snag. When I am on a nextGen gallery page, the drop down appears behind the thumbnails. I have made a temporary fix by adding a title and a before the gallery, but I was wondering if you might be able to tell me if it's possible to fix it using a z-index rule somewhere?

Would really appreciate it if you could help :)

Hi Mike
I really appreciate your putting this post up - it's almost what I'm after and I may well use it but (there had to be a but didn't there? :) ... but is it possible to make into this a single drop down multi-column menu (e.g news/teams etc menu @ www.nfl.com just under the search box) or is there a script already out there that I haven't been able to find yet.

I'm guessing that I'll need to use openhooks to position it correctly on the page

FYI I'm a thesis 1.6/ css newbie planning to use the Network News skin but eager to learn more while avoiding info overload getting in the way of actually doing stuff.

Thanks
